The Guyana Carnival kicks off on Friday

The festivities will run until May 27, and will include various street parties, concerts featuring regional entertainers including Kes the Band, Machel Montano and Buju Banton.

The highlight of the carnival, the road parade, will be held on May 26.

Tobago is set to host the third Mr Caribbean competition next month.

Organisers say the June 1 event aims to promote a positive image of Caribbean men.

Contestants come from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Guyana, St Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad, and Tobago.

Contestants will compete in Magnificent Wear, Talent, Swimwear, Formal Wear and Interview rounds.
